POSSUM KINGDOM LAKE

Just 23 miles west of the Resort, Possum Kingdom is one of the most beautiful lakes in Texas.  D Magazine lists Possum Kingdom as one of the top 10 lakes to call home.  PK Lake, as many locals call it, attracts many locals and visitors for its beautiful cliffs and rolling hills, not to mention the numerous recreational activities.  It is 62 miles long, with some areas as deep as 150 feet, and with the way the current runs, most of the lake’s sediment falls out on the south side, which makes the rest of the lake unusually crystal clear, its gorgeous!  So whether you are out for some relaxing time on your paddle board, or something more adventurous, PK Lake has something for everyone!

Hell's Gate & Devil's Island

Hell’s Gate, two 110-foot cliff formations that guard the entrance to a cove on the lake’s southern end of PK Lake, is the lake’s iconic landmark known worldwide. Hell’s Gate is actually a narrow strait between Devil’s Island and the mainland on Possum Kingdom Lake. Devil’s Island is the focal point of local events, and Hell’s Gate is a popular hangout for boaters.

Mineral Wells State Park

Texas Monthly Magazine, March 29, 2023 issue, contributor Sarah Angle says, "Lake Mineral Wells State Park offers adventurous hiking, fishing, and some of the best rock climbing in Texas." Sarah states, "This underrated pocket of North Texas is well worth your time."

Penitentiary Hollow is one of the few natural rock-climbing venues in North Texas. It is made up of sandstone rock formations. The area is suited to beginners to intermediate but is definitely a great place to learn climbing outdoors.

CANOEING & KAYAKING THE BRAZOS RIVER

Canoeing the Brazos River below the Morris Sheppard dam, between Texas Hwy 16 and FM 4 in Palo Pinto County, is regarded as one of the most scenic areas in North Texas. Towering cliffs and limestone boulders line this beautiful stretch of the river.

CYCLING ROUTES & Mountain Biking

Hikers, bicyclists and horseback riders of all ages and abilities can enjoy the Trailway. Because it is a reclaimed railroad bed, it has flat grades and gentle curves.

Clark Gardens is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that inspires and demonstrates the many rich horticulture and nature-based possibilities of North Texas to tourists and residents alike. Guests may enjoy this 35-acres botanical park through a self-guided tour or a pre-scheduled guided tour. Clark Gardens is open daily, March 1st – July 4th weekend and Labor Day weekend – Thanksgiving weekend. There is something of everyone to enjoy; whether it be the model trains, peacocks & wild life, the historical tree trail, a walk around the peaceful labyrinth, or the jaw dropping spring iris collection.

MINERAL WELLS FOSSIL PARK

Mineral Wells Fossil Park serves the fossil enthusiast, paleontologist, and students.  If you love fossil hunting, come try your luck here, the park actually lets you take what fossils you find home...from designated areas only.

Regular Hours: A 8 AM to 8:45 PM daily. Admission is free.

The Cliffs Resort Golf Course

The Cliffs Resort Golf Course is beautifully set overlooking Possum Kingdom Lake. Each hole makes use of the natural landscape, some highlighted by 100-foot elevation changes, creeks, and massive rock outcroppings, no wonder this course has been rated as one of the most challenging courses in Texas.

Head over to sip and see the historic property that has drawn in folks from all over the globe for over 100 years. The Famous Mineral Water Company is home to Crazy Water in Mineral Wells, TX. Visitors are welcome any time to come sample the water for free.

Crazy Water Hotel

The Crazy Water Hotel was built on the same site of Crazy Water’s third well in 1912. Following a destructive fire in 1925, the hotel was reconstructed in 1927.
